Who we are

Builders, translators, and team scientists.

We are an interdisciplinary team using high-resolution fabrication to address consequential challenges in human health, advanced materials, and sustainable technology.

Our culture is hands-on, collaborative, and evidence-driven. We define meaningful problems, build and test early, share data openly, and treat unexpected results as opportunities to learn. We pair ambitious ideas with quantitative rigor and direct feedback, working across disciplines, institutions, and career stages.

From fundamental mechanisms to clinical studies and scalable manufacturing, we design for translation from the beginning.

Create

Access. Agency. Opportunity.

  1. 01

    Create Access

We believe the greatest technologies are those that reach the greatest number of people. We design diagnostics, therapies, manufacturing methods, and materials not only for technical performance, but for affordability, scalability, and broad adoption. Whether enabling earlier disease detection, expanding access to advanced medicines, or developing manufacturing technologies that can be deployed around the world, our goal is to create innovations that improve lives beyond the laboratory.

  2. 02

    Create Agency

Technology should empower people to make better decisions and shape better futures. We seek to develop tools that give patients greater understanding of their health, physicians better information for care, manufacturers greater control over production, and scientists new ways to explore biology and materials. Within the lab, we cultivate the same principle by giving every member meaningful responsibility, encouraging initiative, and helping individuals develop the confidence and judgment to lead.

  3. 03

    Create Opportunity

Scientific breakthroughs change lives only when people are given the opportunity to contribute to them. We invest in our students and trainees by providing early responsibility, exposure to clinical and industrial partners, opportunities to communicate their work, and the freedom to pursue ambitious ideas. We believe that developing future leaders is among the laboratory’s most important and enduring contributions.

How we work

The behaviors behind the work.

  1. 01

    Expand Human Opportunity

Translation is one mechanism; the higher purpose is increasing what people are able to do—through research that improves health, expands scientific capability, strengthens sustainable technologies, and enables entirely new applications.

  2. 02

    Let Evidence Lead

We define clear targets, use appropriate controls, preserve the scientific record, communicate uncertainty, and change direction when the data require it.

  3. 03

    Build to Learn

We move rapidly among modeling, fabrication, experimentation, and redesign. Every prototype is both a possible solution and a tool for discovering what comes next.

  4. 04

    Work Across Boundaries

We combine disciplines, perspectives, laboratories, and external partnerships because difficult problems rarely fit within one field.

  5. 05

    Grow People and Share Expertise

We teach both tools and principles, give candid and constructive feedback, and create opportunities for every member to develop increasing independence and ownership.

  6. 06

    Design for Responsible Scale

We consider safety, reproducibility, usability, maintainability, manufacturing, and adoption alongside scientific novelty.

Philosophy

Our mission is not simply to invent new technologies. It is to expand what is possible—for patients, scientists, manufacturers, entrepreneurs, and society. We strive to create discoveries that improve lives, educate leaders who build the future, and democratize access to technologies that empower people to make better decisions about their health, their work, and their world.

Outreach

We believe that as scientific researchers have responsibilities outside of the laboratory—Through outreach, education, and community engagement, we strive to positively impact society while inspiring and mentoring the next generation of researchers, innovators, and changemakers.
